Congratulations to the MRHS Competition Cheerleaders on winning a First Place trophy in their division Sunday at Wayne Valley. We are so proud of their hard work and superb performance.

Ms. Hughes’ Freshman classes supported The NJ Coalition Against Human Trafficking’s January 11th Awareness Day with a Locker Slam. Students spread the word against human trafficking by “slamming” student lockers with magnets provided by the NJCAHT. MRHS is one of 30+ schools across the state to participate in this important day. Students also viewed a live feed event via Facebook that addresses this very serious issue. The program will also be posted to be watched at any time on Facebook@njhumantrafficking and Instagram@njhumantrafficking.

On March 5, 2019, MRHS will hosting Optical Academy in the Falcons' Lounge from 9am-2pm. Full eye exams are available starting at $30 and frames starting at $29. Exams are open to all MRHS staff and students' family members. Call the school nurse at 973-389-2853 with any questions.

The MRHS Book Club recently read, Gabi a Girl in Pieces, and met to discuss it on January 23rd. The group really liked this novel about a girl named Gabi Hernandez who shares all the drama and events that happen throughout her senior year in high school. The next club read is The Scorpio Races, a Printz Honor book by Maggie Stiefvater. The meeting will take place on February 27th.

Mr. Merino’s music theory class designed and built musical instruments using materials such as PVC, wire hangers and duct tape. The students worked in teams to make precise measurements and calculations to produce the desired musical pitches of each instrument. The students proudly displayed their finished products, which included pan flutes, fifes, wind chimes, and percussion instruments.

The Falcons’ Lounge Hosts Game Night to encourage relationship-building and communication between students and their father-figures.

The MRHS Battle of the Books teams competed against PCTI on January 30th placing second and fourth out of five teams. On February 13th the teams move on to the state competition at Middlesex Community College. Both MRHS teams are practicing and looking forward to competing. Team members are: Hashem Abokaf, Hibah Clifton, Jagger Defenza, Caroline DelValle, Seena Kesht, Ana Martinez, Idalina Martinez, Jaylin McFarland, Melina Mendoza, Keyashia Nero, Ariela Nunez, Melina Pacheco, and Cinthya Vizcarra. Recently, the Make Difference Club participated in the Lunches with Love program at Oasis on Mill St- in Paterson. For only $144.00 we were able to help provide the meals for the entire day for over 200 people. For privacy reasons there are no pictures of the people we fed. Some of the students worked in the kitchen while others sorted the clothing to be given to the many women who showed up during the day to “shop.”
