In the spirit of collaborative leadership and celebrating the great work of the educators of Manchester Regional High School, the Manchester Regional Education Association and school Administration came together to develop a new tradition of recognition. For the inaugural year, Mr. Gabriel Chalom has been unanimously selected by a committee consisting of all three MREA Presidents, the Principal, and both Assistant Principals to be the 2024 Manchester Regional High School Golden Apple Award winner. This award is given out once per school year to an individual who has shown peer leadership skills, service to the school community beyond the classroom, and the willingness to go the extra mile to advance their program of instruction. Mr. Chalom has embodied all these characteristics and more during the 2023-24 school year.
Mr. Chalom is a passionate teacher of Social Studies. He teaches U.S. History I, U.S. History I Honors, Sociology, Criminal Justice, and leads the school mock trial team each school year. During the 2023-24 school year, Mr. Chalom has worked extremely hard in setting up multiple guest speakers to attend and present to a variety of classes of MRHS students. Likewise, Mr. Chalom set up the guest speaker series on the Oppenheimer Project, the United States quest to build the Atomic Bombs in World War II, and has also set up a series of guest speakers for Memorial Day/D-Day this spring. During each event, Mr. Chalom alway made sure a variety of classes had the ability to sit and interact with living history.
Additionally, Mr. Chalom set up a trip for his Honors U.S. History I students to visit the Tenement Museum in NYC. Mr. Chalom once again went above and beyond in setting up fundraising and the planning of a fulfilling trip which was close to two years in the making. Mr. Chalom’s passion for Social Studies also greatly impacts his Professional Development time in meaningful ways that immediately affect student programming. For example, Mr. Chalom attended the National World War II Symposium in New Orleans this past December and has attended multiple ceremonies and events in NYC during the school year to not only further his knowledge of subject matter, but also make connections for Manchester’s students.
Congratulations Mr. Chalom for being named the 2024 Golden Apple winner for Manchester Regional High School.
