Utilities Assistance from the State of NJ

Please be advised that the electric, gas and water utility companies in New Jersey will resume shut off of service in January for customers with unpaid overdue balances.

The NJ Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU) is asking for our assistance in spreading the word regarding their utility assistance programs available to families that are behind on their utility bills now.   This outreach will provide residents time to apply for help to bring down their balances before January.
Attached is the State’s energy assistance brochure, and the NJ BPU’s fall flyer (both attached in English and Spanish).

The income limits for these utility assistance programs have been temporarily raised as of October 1st so more families can access the assistance.   For example, a household of four (4) with income at or below $106,000 per year can qualify for monthly credits and energy debt forgiveness through the Universal Service Fund (USF) program.
